WOM Tip #226: Pride is buzzworthy

Everyone’s excited about Google Fiber coming to Austin. But it’s a conversation that’s waned as the company continues to build the infrastructure in town. To keep it going, Google reached out to their supporters by sending them a T-shirt designed by a local Austin artist.

The art represents some of the coolest aspects of the city: the music, the Capitol, the bats — and on the sleeve is a subtle Google Fiber logo.

Google has plenty of raving fans who would be glad to wear a shirt with their logo on it. But the company knows an artistic shirt showing off the city is even more remarkable. Even better, the shirt only ships to Austin addresses, making it not only a point of pride, but an exclusive one.

By becoming a part of that city pride, Google builds a rapport with their fans. They become a part of those conversations that start with, “Hey, cool shirt.”
