WOM Slam helps small businesses get people talking

Big shout out to Jeremy Epstein for his brilliant work of bringing together passionate word of mouth marketers in the DC area for the first ever WOM Slam event.

Jeremy describes his event like this:

A WOM Slam (#womslam on twitter) is a fast-paced networking/educational/business solutions event where smart people come together to learn, collaborate, and then generate Word of Mouth (WOM) marketing ideas for the “client” of the night.

Over themed drinks and appetizers, a manager of Mie N Yu (the client of the night) briefed the 28 word of mouth enthusiasts in attendance on the challenges and opportunities the restaurant faces. For 45 minutes, in small teams of 4 or 5, attendees networked and generated ideas designed to give Mie N Yu customers a reason to tell their friends about the restaurant. At the end, each participant had 50 seconds to present their ideas.

Based on the criteria of low-cost, ease of implementation, and how well it gave someone a reason to talk, the judges selected the top 10 ideas to receive a copy of Andy’s book, as well as a grand prize of dinner for two at Mie N Yu for the best idea.

Jeremy looks to host more WOM Slams in DC and other cities, so stay tuned by checking out (and joining) their WOM Slammers Facebook Group, following WOM Slam on Twitter, subscribing to his EventBrite RSS feed, or by dropping a line by commenting on his post.

The Lesson: Now is a great time to use word of mouth to help small businesses. Nice work Jeremy.
