Social media is a noisy place during the Super Bowl. Every commercial has a hashtag, every armchair quarterback has an opinion to tweet, and everyone’s trying to stay on top of what’s trending.

According to Cosmin Ghiurau, Director of Social Media Marketing for RadioShack, they planned to beat the noise with a social media command center and an all-hands-on-deck word of mouth strategy. In his presentation at SocialMedia.org’s BlogWell conference, he talks about how they helped RadioShack’s 80’s throwback commercial “win” the Super Bowl.

In this video, Cosmin explains:

  • Why they were ready to adjust their content based on what people were talking about
  • Why RadioShack was one of the few brands that didn’t share or tease their Super Bowl commercial before the big day
  • What “5 seconds to freak out, and 25 seconds to execute” means
