This is a guest post from Gary Vaynerchuk — well-known entrepreneur, social media innovator, and author of “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook.” See the original post this is adapted from and more like it on his blog.

Everybody just thinks they’re just going to start a show, or start a blog, and they’re magically going to become an internet sensation. Like they’re just going to find success simply because they had a good idea for a YouTube show.

The truth is that in content, success revolves around building a community, and building a community takes work.

Building a community is not a forgone conclusion.

My belief is that the best way to gain a following is to put out as much daily content as you can (of course, I’m referring to quality content here… but don’t forget that quality is subjective). Whatever it is you may be doing, putting out pictures or drawings on Snapchat, or photos on Instagram, or a video, or written blog, you need to be getting as close to that as possible and focus on it EVERY DAY.

Every day. 6 days is better than 5, and 5 is better than 4, and 4 is better than 3. If you’re doing it just 1 or 2 days a week, are you really doing it?

So, you need to pump out hardcore content AND engage within that content.

When I go home at night, I go into the comments section of my content and reply to those comments to create context. You all empower me by watching my shows and following my blogs, and with that we create a deeper context with one another. It’s about content AND context.

The talent to put out the content is only one piece of the equation. One percent of that magic one percent get it by just pushing out content. But for the rest of us, we have to put the work into the community and care back to the time they’ve allocated.

The fact that people take 10 minutes of their ridiculously busy worlds to watch my show or read my blogs, is something I will never, EVER, take for granted.

Thanks for reading. If you know someone who is starting their own content play, show this to them!
