The Transportation Security Administration has an Instagram account now. And if you’re like most people, you’re asking, “What? Why?”

A lot of bloggers and reporters have pointed out that it’s a little weird. After all, the TSA’s using filters usually reserved for desserts or feet at the beach to stylize photos of knives, guns, and grenades they confiscate at security checkpoints.

But here’s why their Instagram account is remarkable: It got people talking. (And this time, it’s not negative word of mouth.)

The Instagram photos of the hundreds of weapons they confiscate starts conversations about how the TSA is doing their job. By bringing their everyday work to the light in a modern, relatable way, the TSA has found a way to change the word of mouth conversation.
