Video: How Novartis pulls off word of mouth despite strict regulations

Word of mouth marketing is great because any company can do it regardless of size, budget, or industry. But when you work in pharmaceuticals, it can come with a few obstacles.

According to Melissa Mackey, Associate Director of Digital Strategies at Novartis, those obstacles are FDA regulations and legal teams within the company. So to start conversations on social media about their hackathon — an event to help find mobile tech solutions for healthcare providers — they had to step up their game.

In her presentation at SocialMedia.org’s Member Meeting in New York, Melissa explains why they invited the legal team to help at the event, how they got the C-suite involved in spreading the word internally, and why they set up a social media listening center.

Melissa also explains:

  • Why photographers and videographers are necessities
  • How to help ease your legal team’s fears about social media
  • Why promoting these events internally is just as important as sharing them externally
