Repeatable word of mouth topics are simple and focused. Try to put too many ideas out there and your message will get lost. That was the lesson EMC Corporation learned when they realized they had too many social media accounts sharing too many different messages.
EMC Corporation Senior Social Media Manager Thom Lytle says it was a result of something positive — executives encouraging employees to be social — but turned into something negative — too many half-hearted social presences.
In his presentation at SocialMedia.org’s BlogWell conference, Thom explains how they consolidated these accounts and gave employees a better outlet to share their focused company message.
Thom shares:
- What free tools they use to prepare employees to spread word of mouth
- How they encourage employees to share ideas with the social team
- Why “get busy living or get busy dying” is Thom’s favorite quote
