When most companies have grand opening, they celebrate their store: flags in the parking lot, banners over the door, and billboard announcements. When The Container Store opens a new location, they celebrate their customers.

Before The Container Store opens a newly built store, they give their biggest fans the opportunity to become a “Super Fan.” Through an essay contest, The Container Store chooses one lucky fan to be the first person to shop at their new location.

When they come in, the Super Fan gets a sash, a crown, and a welcome round of applause from every employee.

That’s the kind of experience that fan will talk about for a long time — and one that shows The Container Store’s love for their customers. How much more remarkable is that than a “Grand Opening” sign?
