Austin Pets Alive! doesn’t have any spare cash to pay people to write bios and blog posts, take photos, and make videos featuring their adoptable animals. But the more content they have to tell their story, the more people they reach. That means more interest in adopting stray cats and dogs and more donations to the shelter.

So how do they do it? They ask volunteers to help.

According to their fundraising executive, Adrienne Longenecker, the content doesn’t have to be perfect. She says people are just as excited about videos shot on someone’s phone as they are about one with high production quality.

So they give volunteers lots of opportunities to show off the adoptable pets, and as they get to know the volunteers’ different skill sets, APA! gives them more ways to contribute.

Even if you don’t have a building full of adorable animals to show off, chances are, you still have some people who would love to contribute to your story. All you have to do is ask.
