Seth Godin’s “Tribes”

Tribes_2Back in October of 2008, our contest winners were the first on their block to read Seth Godin’s book — Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us. If you haven’t read the already-classic book yet, you really should.

About the book:

You know about waiting in line at an Apple store, or the look on a fellow Deadhead’s face. You know about the way it feels to go back to the church where you grew up. You know about the real power of a brand.

According to Godin, Tribes are groups of people aligned around an idea, connected to a leader and to each other. Tribes make our world work, and always have.

The new opportunity is that it’s easier than ever to find, organize, and lead a tribe. The Web has enabled an explosion of all kinds of tribes — and created shortage of people to lead them. This is the growth industry of our time.

Tribes (the book) will help you understand exactly what’s at stake, and why YOU can and should lead a tribe of your own.

Congratulations to our contest winners: Eric Beato, Matt Horne, Jeff Kitchen, Brandon, Mark Waldman, Dusty Rhoades, Lynn O’Connell, Pat Lee, John Chase, and Alex.

And thanks to everyone for the word of mouth!

This book is superb — I got an advance copy and in Seth’s signature style, it’s straight-to-the-point, simple, and inspiring. It also talks about the importance of leading and then “getting out of the way” — meaning “it’s not just about you getting credit”, a point I also learned from Johnny Bunko, which I won in a previous contest hosted by Andy.

    Best of hope, winners! 🙂
