Grasshopper’s word of mouth case study

Grasshopper case studyRecently, Grasshopper (formerly GotVMail) — a company that offers telephone services for entrepreneurs — launched a word of mouth campaign to let everyone know that they changed their name.

To get the word out, they reached out to “5,000 of the most influential people in North America” (including our own Andy Sernovitz) and sent them chocolate-covered grasshoppers as well as a link to Grasshopper’s inspirational video about entrepreneurship.

And to top it all off, they’ve released a case study of the campaign with some impressive numbers:

  • 183,000+ YouTube views
  • 25,000 referrals from StumbleUpon
  • 3,000 referrals from Twitter
  • 170 blog posts and news articles about the campaign

It’s brilliant. Not only does it show how fantastic the campaign was, but it gives business and marketing bloggers a fresh, blog-worthy spin on the story — like this one from Drew over at Drew’s Marketing Minute.
